Answer (1 of 2): I don’t think that a second season for Mirai Nikki was ever planned at all. The story is pretty much conclusive, and the little left behind in episode 26 corresponded to a few pages on the manga which obviously wouldn’t be enough content for a second season. They just did an OVA
