Batman Returns with a new Michael Keaton-era inspired LEGO set, Batcave – Shadow Box 76252.
1992’s Batman Returns was a curious addition to the DC Caped Crusader film collection, arriving on the heels of 1989’s fun-filled Batman. Tim Burton’s sequel was much darker in tone, with more violence and an attempt to tap into the grey atmosphere of the fictional Gotham City. LEGO have now announced the June release of the Batcave – Shadow Box 76252 set, offering adult LEGO collectors and model-makers a chance to own a 3,981-piece tableau replication of Batman’s secret lair, including the pop culture symbol Batmobile and other feature-rich cave details. The superhero-themed set will be released on 5th June for VIP club members and 8th June for general sale. As revealed by the official product shots from LEGO, the model can be opened up to reveal the entire cave, including computers, an illuminated Batsuit vault and similar crime-fighting tech. Once closed, the cave can be viewed through the iconic Batman logo, creating a shadowbox effect (known in the art world as a 3D-style frame that adds a sense of depth to the painting, similar to a lightbox effect). This 18+ Batcave-in-a-box also includes updated versions of many of the now-retro characters from the film, including Catwoman, Penguin and Max Shrek. Michael Keaton’s Bruce Wayne and faithful butler Alfred Pennyworth are also included. The new set of 7 minifigures is complete with two different versions of Batman. The new Batman LEGO set will be available for £344.99.
